When scrolling down this page you will see a Donate button which will take you to the Pay Pal for Clifton Diocese (St Peter's page) This is a secure site for those parishioners who do NOT pay their weekly collection by standing order. Because there is no Sunday obligation and numbers at Mass are reduced, the income for the parish has been reduced, although the outlay for bills etc still need to be paid. Thank you in anticipation for your generosity.
"You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth will be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth will be considered loosed in heaven."
(Matthew 16:18-19)

PARISH PRIEST

FATHER FRANCIS COLACO sfx

Fr Francis is a missionary priest of the Society of St Francis Xavier commonly known as The Pilar Fathers. He was previously Assistant Priest at this parish. He was inducted as Parish Priest on 1st September 2023, when Fr Lucas took up his new post as Parish Priest of Holy Rood, Swindon

Fr Lucas Rodrigues sfx  January 2020-September 2023

Fr Lucas was appointed Parish Priest in January 2020 after the death of our beloved Fr Michael Saunders. He steered the parish through the dark days of COVID ensuring that St Peter's was a safe and welcoming space to everyone.

We wish Fr Lucas well on his appointment as Parish Priest of Holy Rood.

Former Parish Priests

Rev. Dr Michael Saunders, whose photograph is on the left, was parish priest of St Peter's from September 2003 until his very sad death on October 12th 2019. He was very much loved and his 16 year tenure saw him become very much part of his parishioners' lives baptising their children, presiding over the Sacramental programmes of First Reconciliation, The Eucharist and Confirmation and their weddings, finally officiating over their Requiem Mass. He was a Canon Lawyer,  and a very learned and wise man who was known for his excellent preaching and teaching. He was a frequent visitor to Canada where he was based before becoming parish priest here at St Peter's. He also lectured in law at Ottawa University. May he rest in peace.

Father Tom Kelly preceded Fr Michael and was parish priest from 1990-2003 before leaving us to become parish priest if St Joseph's in Bridgwater. He is very fondly remembered and again his long tenure of 13 years ensured that he became very much part of his parishioner's lives. Before coming to St Peter's Fr Tom was parish priest of St Thomas More, Marlborough. He has now retired.
Canon Liam O'Driscoll built St Peter's Catholic Church which was opened in December 1985. Prior to the church being built Canon Liam resided in 1, Liskeard Way in Freshbrook where he turned his garage into a little chapel where morning Mass was said. Sunday Mass was held in the shared church at Toothill. Canon Liam  was famous for his powers of persuasion. Any request was usually prefixed with the phrase, "Oh you're great," in his Irish accent, before he made his request. Needless to say he always got his own way! Canon O'Driscoll left St Peter's in 1990 to become Parish Priest of St John's in Trowbridge. He is now Parish Priest of St Thomas More in Bradford on Avon.
